Bellerive Oval Tasmania
Turf Drain Australia was contracted to upgrade the surfaces of the turf cricket wicket and the outfield at Blundstone Stadium Bellerive, Tasmania.
EnquireBellerive Oval (currently known as Blundstone Arena for sponsorship reasons) is a cricket and Australian rules football ground located in Bellerive, a suburb on the eastern shore of Hobart, Tasmania. It is the only venue in Tasmania which hosts international cricket matches, and has a spectator capacity of 19,500.
The venue is best known as the home ground for the state cricket teams, the Tasmanian Tigers and Hobart Hurricanes, as well as a venue for international Test matches since 1989 and one-day matches since 1988. It is also the secondary home ground for AFL club North Melbourne, who play three home games a season at the venue. The stadium has undergone significant redevelopment to accommodate such events.
Work Involved
Sports Field Works
- Removal of 50mm of the turf wicket and sportsfield surfaces.(With assistance from Evergreen Turf P/L)
- Rotary Hoeing to break up the heavy layer on the outfield.
- Laser grading the surface of the outfield to a pre-determined shape and grade.
- Spreading and blending of 1500 tonnes of washed coarse sand.
- Laser grading the surface again to achieve a fine finish prior to seeding.
- Scarifying the reduced wicket surface.
- Spreading locally supplied wicket soil then laser grading and compacting to the desired contour and level.

- Spreading locally supplied wicket soil then laser grading and compacting to the desired contour and level.
- The northern and southern approaches to the wicket square were stabilised with a fibre by Evergreen Turf.
